Vocal Fry is quite a modern verbal phenomenon.

 

It’s a vocal pattern of low, creaky vibrations, a scratchy sound – it makes the voice sound more edgy, more urban, more cool!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Although the mainstream Canadian accent has similar sounds to the mainstream American accent, there are subtle differences with some of the vowels. This gives the Canadian accent its own identity and has helped shape the mainstream Canadian accent in todays world.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Traditionally, the Canadian accent retained some features of British English pronunciation.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

But, having said that, it’s important not to forget, there are some very strong Canadian accents. A strong Canadian accent can interfere with the line of communication when speaking English.
