The Jamaican accent has many key elements to its sound spectrum, one of which is its unique rhythm. The rhythm of an accent is one of the most important characteristics. It’s ultra-important. Rhythm is how an accent flows; its timing – how it moves!

Jamaican Patois gave the Jamaican accent its instantly recognisable rhythm.
The character of the Jamaican accent has been shaped through the years, through history, from the influences of British English and American English, with the blends of Jamaican patois. British English and American English helped form the origin of Jamaican English, which is the official language of Jamaica. But, Jamaican patois added that important, instantly recognisable rhythm to the Jamaican accent.

You can hear the rhythm of Reggae Music in the Jamaican accent.
Jamaican music has been a huge influence in the world, carrying the Jamaican music sounds across the globe. And in the UK, music such as ska and reggae led to the rising trend of a certain type of slang being used in the UK. This would later become known as Multicultural London English (or MLE), the roots of which were Jamaican patois.

The intonation of the Jamaican accent can be heard in the rhythm of Reggae Music.
Jamaican people speak with the spirit of sincerity; with a growing genuineness! And just like the soulful sounds of the Jamaican music, the Jamaican accent serenades you with its catchy rhythm!

But, having said that, it’s important not to forget, there are some very strong Jamaican accents. A strong Jamaican accent can interfere with the line of communication when speaking English. Reducing and softening a strong Jamaican accent, can help you to improve your speaking skills.

Remember,
Speaking is a Skill ….

And Remember,
Your Voice is 50 percent of who you are!
