The Liechtenstein Accent

The Liechtenstein accent is a branch of German, with its own unique verbal character!

The Liechtenstein accent is based on an Alemannic dialect (specifically High and Highest Alemannic).

The Liechtenstein accent is very different from mainstream German.
The Liechtenstein accent has different vowel and consonant sounds as compared to the standard German accent.

The majority of Liechtenstein residents use the Alemannic dialect for everyday communication.

The Liechtenstein accent falls within
the Alemannic spectrum
of German dialects.

The Alemannic dialect spoken in Liechtenstein
is very similar to Swiss German
and dialects in neighbouring Austria and Germany.

The Liechtenstein accent has two linguistic branches:
High Alemannic is spoken in most of the country (the Oberland and Unterland regions).
Highest Alemannic (specifically the Walser German variety) is spoken by a minority in the high mountain areas, mainly in the municipality of Triesenberg.

The Liechtenstein accent has its own unique characteristics.

The Liechtenstein accent is related to those spoken
in neighbouring regions, such as Swiss German,
southern German dialects, and the Walser dialect,
with a particular dialect spoken
in the municipality of Triesenberg.

The Liechtenstein accent falls within
the Alemannic spectrum
of German dialects.
