Maltese is the only English-speaking island nation in the Mediterranean.Its origins lie in the fusion of Arabic from North Africa and a Sicilian dialect from Italy. Through the years, many foreign words, particularly English and Italian, have become part of the Maltese language.
The Maltese accent sounds like oriental Italian, a mix of Latin and Arabic, and a bit of English!
If you mix Tunisian Arabic with a lot of Italian, and a bit of English, you would have the Maltese accent!
But, having said that, it’s important not to forget, there are some very strong Maltese accents. A strong accent can interfere with the line of communication when speaking English. Reducing and softening a strong Maltese accent, can help you to improve your speaking skills.
